Vimpat wird auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin zur Behandlung von Epilepsie angewendet.
Vimpat wird für die Behandlung von partiellen Anfällen mit oder ohne sekundäre Generalisierung bei erwachsenen Epilepsiepatienten ab 18 Jahren angewendet.
Vimpat wird dabei zusätzlich zu anderen Antiepileptika eingesetzt.
Nehmen Sie Vimpat Filmtabletten und Sirup nicht ein,
Vimpat kann Schwindelgefühl und verschwommenes Sehen verursachen, wodurch sich die Gefahr versehentlicher Verletzungen und Stürze erhöhen kann. Dies könnte auch Ihre Fähigkeit beeinträchtigen, am Strassenverkehr teilzunehmen oder Werkzeuge und Maschinen zu bedienen. Sie sollten daher darauf verzichten, bis Sie wissen, ob das Arzneimittel bei Ihnen die Durchführung solcher Aktivitäten einschränkt.
Eine geringe Anzahl von Patienten, die mit Antiepileptika wie Lacosamid behandelt wurden, hatten Gedanken daran, sich selbst zu verletzen oder sich das Leben zu nehmen. Wenn Sie zu irgendeinem Zeitpunkt solche Gedanken haben, setzen Sie sich sofort mit Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin in Verbindung.
Vimpat Sirup enthält Natriummethylhydroxybenzoat (E219), das allergische Reaktionen (möglicherweise verzögert) auslösen kann. 10 ml Sirup enthalten 1,87 g Sorbitol (E420), was einem Brennwert von 4,86 kcal entspricht. Patienten mit seltener hereditärer Fruktoseintoleranz sollten dieses Arzneimittel nicht einnehmen. Bei Patienten mit Phenylketonurie sollte berücksichtigt werden, dass der Sirup Aspartam (E951) enthält, eine Phenylalaninquelle. 10 ml Sirup enthalten ausserdem 0.62 mmol (oder 14,2 mg) Natrium. Dies ist bei Patienten mit einer kontrollierten Natriumdiät zu beachten.
Während der Behandlung mit Vimpat ist es nicht ratsam, Alkohol zu trinken, da Vimpat zu Müdigkeit und Schwindelgefühl führen kann. Alkohol kann diese Wirkungen verstärken.
Vimpat kann zusammen mit oralen Kontrazeptiva eingenommen werden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker, bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen.
Wenn Sie schwanger sind, wird die Behandlung mit Vimpat nicht empfohlen, da nicht bekannt ist, welche Auswirkungen Vimpat auf den Verlauf der Schwangerschaft und das Ungeborene haben kann. Informieren Sie sofort Ihren Arzt, bzw. Ihre Ärztin falls Sie schwanger sind oder eine Schwangerschaft planen. Ihr Arzt/Ihre Ärztin wird entscheiden, ob Sie Vimpat einnehmen sollten.
Während der Behandlung mit Vimpat sollten Sie nicht stillen, da nicht bekannt ist, ob Vimpat in die Muttermilch übertritt. Informieren Sie sofort Ihren Arzt, bzw. Ihre Ärztin falls Sie stillen. Ihr Arzt/Ihre Ärztin wird entscheiden, ob Sie Vimpat einnehmen sollten.
Untersuchungen haben ein erhöhtes Risiko von Fehlbildungen bei Kindern von Frauen gezeigt, die mit Antiepileptika behandelt wurden. Andererseits darf eine Therapie mit Antiepileptika nicht unterbrochen werden, da eine Verschlechterung der Erkrankung sowohl der Mutter, als auch dem ungeborenen Kind schaden könnte.
Wenn Sie schwanger sind oder stillen, oder wenn Sie vermuten, schwanger zu sein oder beabsichtigen, schwanger zu werden, fragen Sie vor der Einnahme dieses Arzneimittels Ihr Arzt/Ihre Ärztin um Rat.
Nehmen Sie Vimpat immer genau nach Anweisung Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin ein. Bitte fragen Sie bei Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin nach, wenn Sie nicht ganz sicher sind.
Vimpat ist zweimal täglich einzunehmen, einmal morgens und einmal abends, zu ungefähr derselben Zeit jeden Tag. Vimpat wird als Langzeitbehandlung angewendet.
Die übliche Anfangsdosis von Vimpat beträgt 100 mg pro Tag und wird zur Hälfte (50 mg) morgens und zur Hälfte (50 mg) abends eingenommen. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin kann Ihre Tagesdosis jede Woche um 100 mg erhöhen, bis Sie die so genannte Erhaltungsdosis zwischen 200 mg und 400 mg pro Tag erreicht haben. Diese Erhaltungsdosis ist während der Langzeitbehandlung einzunehmen.
Ihr Arzt könnte entscheiden, die Behandlung mit Vimpat mit einer einzelnen hohen Anfangsdosis (Aufsättigungsdosis) zu beginnen und ungefähr 12 Stunden später mit einer Erhaltungsdosis fortzuführen. Eine hohe Anfangsdosis (Aufsättigungsdosis) sollte unter medizinischer Überwachung verabreicht werden.
Falls Sie an Nierenproblemen leiden, kann Ihnen Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin eine andere Dosierung verschreiben.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker, bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Sie sollten die Vimpat-Tablette mit einem Glas Wasser schlucken. Sie können Vimpat Filmtabletten mit oder ohne Nahrung einnehmen.
Füllen Sie den Messbecher bis zu der Markierung auf der Skala, die der Ihnen verschriebenen Dosis entspricht.
Jede Skalenmarkierung auf dem Messbecher entspricht 50 mg (5 ml); (z.B. entsprechen zwei Markierungen 100 mg; 10 ml).
Schlucken Sie den Sirup und trinken Sie anschliessend etwas Wasser. Sie können Vimpat Sirup mit oder ohne Nahrung einnehmen.
Vimpat wird als Langzeitbehandlung angewendet. Sie sollten Vimpat solange einnehmen, wie von Ihrem Arzt, bzw. Ihrer Ärztin verordnet wurde.
Die Behandlung darf nicht ohne die Anweisung Ihres Arztes, bzw. Ihrer Ärztin unterbrochen werden, dies könnte zu einem epileptischen Anfall führen.
Sollte Ihr Arzt, bzw. Ihre Ärztin Sie anweisen, die Behandlung abzubrechen, folgen Sie bitte genau seiner/ihrer Anordnung einer schrittweisen Absetzung des Arzneimittels.
Kontaktieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin sofort, wenn Sie mehr Vimpat eingenommen haben als Sie sollten. Sie könnten mit Schwindel, Übelkeit, epileptischen Anfällen oder Herzbeschwerden reagieren. Unterlassen Sie Auto zu fahren.
Wenn Sie die Einnahme vergessen haben, nehmen Sie die Dosis wie üblich ein. Nehmen Sie nicht die doppelte Dosis ein, wenn Sie die vorherige Einnahme vergessen haben.
Wie bei anderen antiepileptischen Arzneimitteln ist die Einnahme von Vimpat schrittweise abzubrechen, da sich sonst Ihre Symptome (Anfallshäufigkeit) verschlimmern können.
Wenn Sie weitere Fragen zur Anwendung dieses Arzneimittels haben, fragen Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Wie alle Arzneimittel kann Vimpat Nebenwirkungen verursachen.
Wenn beschriebene Nebenwirkungen stark werden oder wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Einzelne Fälle von schweren Hautreaktionen (Steven-Johnson-Syndrom oder toxische epidermale Nekrolyse) mit Blasenbildung und Abschälen der Haut, besonders um Mund, Nase, Augen und Genitalien wurden nach der Markteinführung beobachtet.
Wenn bei Ihnen ein Hautausschlag oder die anderen genannten Symptome an der Haut auftreten, kontaktieren Sie sofort Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Das Arzneimittel für Kinder unerreichbar und bei 15-30 °C aufbewahren.
Vimpat Sirup nach dem Öffnen innert 4 Wochen aufbrauchen, der Rest ist zu verwerfen.
Arzneimittel sollten nicht über Abwasser oder Hausmüll entsorgt werden. Fragen Sie Ihren Apotheker bzw. Ihre Apothekerin, wie Sie nicht mehr benötigte Arzneimittel entsorgen sollten. Diese Massnahmen tragen zum Schutz der Umwelt bei.

Vimpat Filmtabletten 100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg, sind erhältlich in Packungen zu 14, 56 und 168 (3× 56) Filmtabletten.
Vimpat Sirup 10 mg/ml: Packungen mit Flaschen à 200 ml Sirup mit graduiertem Messbecher (1 Graduierungseinheit entspricht 50 mg (5 ml)).
