Cephoral ist ein oral anwendbares Medikament zur Behandlung bakterieller Infektionen. Es gehört zur Klasse der Cephalosporin-Antibiotika und besitzt eine antibakterielle Wirkung gegen eine Vielzahl von Bakterien. Cephoral ist zur Behandlung folgender Infektionen geeignet:
Atemwegsinfektionen, Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Infektionen, akute und chronische Harnwegsinfektionen, akute unkomplizierte Gonorrhoe.
Cephoral darf nur auf Verschreibung und unter ständiger Kontrolle eines Arztes/einer Ärztin verwendet werden.
Vergessen Sie nicht, dass dieses Arzneimittel zur Behandlung Ihrer gegenwärtigen Erkrankung von Ihrem Arzt/Ihrer Ärztin verschrieben wurde. Es darf nicht für die Behandlung anderer Erkrankungen und auch nicht für die Behandlung anderer Personen verwendet werden.
Bei Überempfindlichkeit gegen den Wirkstoff von Cephoral (Cefixim) darf Cephoral nicht angewendet werden. Besteht bei Ihnen eine Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber Betalaktamantibiotika (Cephalosporine, Penicilline) (bitte fragen Sie Ihren Arzt/Ihre Ärztin), sollte Cephoral nicht angewendet werden. Die Suspension von Cephoral sollte bei Unverträglichkeit gegenüber Aspirin oder des Konservierungsmittels Natriumbenzoat (E 211) nicht eingenommen werden.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und die Fähigkeit Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen beeinträchtigen. Besteht in Ihrer Krankengeschichte der Hinweis auf eine Veranlagung für ausgeprägte Allergien (z.B. Urtikaria oder Hautausschlag) oder Asthma, muss Ihr Arzt/Ihre Ärztin darüber in Kenntnis gesetzt werden. Bei gleichzeitiger Einnahme von anderen antibakteriell wirksamen Arzneimitteln oder Arzneimitteln, welche die Wasserausscheidung verstärken, ist Vorsicht geboten.
Bei einigen Patienten wurden während der Behandlung mit Cefixim schwere Hautreaktionen (Stevens-Johnson-Syndrom, toxische epidermale Nekrolyse, DRESS-Syndrom) beobachtet. Cefixim sollte beim Auftreten solcher allergischen Reaktionen abgesetzt und unverzüglich der Arzt/die Ärztin kontaktiert werden.
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin soll Kenntnis davon haben, wenn Sie bereits blutverdünnende Arzneimittel vom Cumarin-Typ einnehmen, da es bei gleichzeitiger Einnahme mit Cefixim zu Wechselwirkungen kommen kann.
Die Einnahme von Cephalosporinen kann in sehr seltenen Fällen zu Nierenversagen führen. Bei akutem Nierenversagen sollte das Präparat abgesetzt und Ihr Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin unverzüglich benachrichtigt werden.
Es wurden Fälle von schwerer hämolytischer Anämie (Blutarmut) nach Behandlung mit Medikamenten aus der Klasse der Cephalosporine (Antibiotika) beschrieben. Mögliche Anzeichen einer hämolytischen Anämie sind Blässe, Abgeschlagenheit und Gelbfärbung der Haut (Ikterus) und der weissen Augenbereiche. Beim Auftreten solcher Anzeichen setzen Sie sich mit Ihrem Arzt/Ihrer Ärztin in Verbindung, damit er/sie beurteilt, ob die Behandlung mit Cefixim abgebrochen werden soll.
Beim Auftreten von schweren oder anhaltenden Durchfällen während oder nach der Behandlung sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren. Beim Auftreten von Durchfall dürfen keine Arzneimittel, welche die Peristaltik (Darmbewegung) hemmen, eingenommen werden.
Patientinnen und Patienten die auf Azofarbstoffe, Acetylsalicylsäure sowie Rheuma- und Schmerzmittel (Prostaglandinhemmer) überempfindlich reagieren, sollen Cephoral 400 DT dispergierbare Tabletten nicht einnehmen.

Wenn Sie schwanger sind, es werden möchten oder stillen, sollten Sie vorsichtshalber möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten. Überlassen Sie es Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin zu entscheiden, ob Sie mit Cephoral während der Schwangerschaft und in der Stillzeit behandelt werden dürfen.
Ihr Arzt/Ihre Ärztin setzt die Dosierung und die Behandlungsdauer fest. Nur bei strikter Einhaltung dieser Vorschriften kann der grösstmögliche Nutzen von Cephoral erreicht werden. Brechen Sie die Therapie nicht vorzeitig ab, selbst wenn Sie sich besser fühlen. Denn oft klingen die Krankheitszeichen vor vollständiger Heilung der Infektion ab. Wenn der Arzt/die Ärztin nicht anders verordnet, gelten folgende Dosierungen: Erwachsene und Kinder ab 12 Jahren täglich 400 mg Cephoral. Die empfohlene Tagesdosis kann wahlweise auf einmal verabreicht werden (1 dispergierbare Tablette zu 400 mg oder 20 ml Suspension) oder in 2 Einzeldosen (morgens und abends je ½ dispergierbare Tablette zu 400 mg oder 10 ml Suspension) aufgeteilt werden. Kleinere Kinder erhalten, soweit nicht anders verordnet, täglich 8 mg Cephoral/kg Körpergewicht. Die empfohlene Tagesdosis kann wahlweise auf einmal verabreicht werden oder in 2 Einzeldosen (4 mg Cephoral/kg Körpergewicht morgens und abends) aufgeteilt werden. Bei Verabreichung der Suspension kann folgende Tabelle zur Orientierung dienen:

Der Packung Cephoral Pulver zur Herstellung einer Suspension liegt ein Messlöffel bei, der eine Verabreichung von 1,25 ml, 2,5 ml sowie 5,0 ml gestattet. Cephoral 400 DT dispergierbare Tabletten sowie die gebrauchsfertige Suspension können sowohl vor als auch zusammen mit der Mahlzeit eingenommen werden.
Die dispergierbaren Tabletten werden entweder als Ganzes mit ausreichend Flüssigkeit eingenommen oder vor der Einnahme in reichlich Flüssigkeit dispergiert und dann eingenommen. Die flüssige Zubereitung sollte unmittelbar nach Dispersion der Tablette eingenommen werden.
Hinweis: Cephoral 400 DT darf nur in Wasser, jedoch nicht in Milch oder Saft dispergiert werden.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin.
Die Suspension wird normalerweise vom Apotheker zubereitet. Falls die Suspension nicht zubereitet ist, muss dem Pulver Leitungswasser wie folgt zugegeben werden:
Dies ergibt 60 ml bzw. 100 ml gebrauchsfertige Suspension. Vor jeder Anwendung Flasche kräftig schütteln und kurze Zeit stehenlassen, bis sich der aufgetretene Schaum abgesetzt hat. Die gebrauchsfertige Suspension ist bei Lagerung unter 25 °C (Zimmertemperatur) zwei Wochen voll wirksam und unverändert im Geschmack.
Hinweis: Cephoral Pulver zur Herstellung einer Suspension darf nur mit Wasser, jedoch nicht in Milch oder Saft suspendiert werden.
Gelegentlich können Bauchschmerzen, Verdauungsstörungen, Übelkeit, Erbrechen und Durchfall sowie Kopfschmerzen, Schwindelgefühl und Unruhezustände auftreten. Beim Einnehmen von Cephoral während den Mahlzeiten tritt Übelkeit sehr selten auf. Beim Auftreten von schweren und anhaltenden Durchfällen während oder nach der Behandlung sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt/Ihre Ärztin benachrichtigen. In seltenen Fällen können allergische Reaktionen (z.B. Hautausschläge, Fieber, Juckreiz, Gelenkschmerzen) und in sehr seltenen Fällen Nierenversagen, schwere Hautreaktionen (vgl. «Wann ist bei der Einnahme von Cephoral Vorsicht geboten?»), Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen (anaphylaktischer Schock), hämolytische Anämie (Blutarmut) und Störungen der Leberfunktion (Gelbsucht) vorkommen. Mögliche Anzeichen einer hämolytischen Anämie sind Blässe, Abgeschlagenheit und Gelbfärbung der Haut und der weissen Augenbereiche. Erste Anzeichen einer Störung der Leberfunktion können zunehmende Müdigkeit, Appetitlosigkeit, eine Gelbfärbung der Augen und der Haut sowie eine Entfärbung des Stuhls sein. Beim Auftreten solcher Anzeichen setzen Sie sich mit Ihrem Arzt/Ihrer Ärztin in Verbindung, damit er/sie beurteilt, ob die Behandlung mit Cefixim abgebrochen werden soll. Das in der Suspension enthaltene Konservierungsmittel Natriumbenzoat (E 211) und der in der dispergierbaren Tablette enthaltene Azofarbstoff E110 (Gelborange) können Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen an der Haut und den Atmungsorganen auslösen, insbesondere bei Patienten mit Asthma, chronischer Urtikaria, resp. bei sog. Aspirin- und Additiva-Intoleranz. Befragen Sie in diesen Fällen unverzüglich Ihren Arzt/Ihre Ärztin.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin informieren.
Falls Sie Diabetiker sind, beachten Sie, dass 5 ml gebrauchsfertige Cephoral Suspension 2,5 g Saccharose enthalten (entsprechend 0,25 Brotwerte oder 10 kcal bzw. 42,5 kJ).
Bestimmte Tests zur Glucosebestimmung im Urin können unter Anwendung von Cefixim falsch positive Ergebnisse liefern.
Arzneimittel sollen in der verschlossenen Originalpackung an einem für Kinder unerreichbaren Ort (kühl, trocken und vor Licht geschützt) aufbewahrt werden.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Nicht über 25 °C lagern.
Nach Beendigung der Behandlung das Arzneimittel mit dem restlichen Inhalt Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin zum Vernichten bringen.
