Xenalon ist ein Arzneimittel, das durch die erhöhte Ausscheidung von überschüssigem Wasser und Salz im Organismus die Harnausscheidung stimuliert. Es ist jedoch wichtig, dass der Organismus vitale Elemente wie Kalium und Magnesium zurückhält. Xenalon bewirkt ebenfalls die Senkung eines zu hohen arteriellen Blutdrucks.
Die Wirkung von Xenalon tritt im Allgemeinen zwischen dem 3. und 6. Behandlungstag ein und kann noch 72 Stunden nach Behandlungsabbruch anhalten. Xenalon wird bei Wasseransammlung im Gewebe verwendet, bei Herz-, Leber- oder Nierenkrankheiten.
Xenalon wird ebenfalls eingesetzt für die Behandlung eines erhöhten Blutdruckes, vorzugsweise zusammen mit einem anderen Blutdruckmittel.
Xenalon ist auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin einzunehmen.
Eine salzarme Diät ist empfehlenswert.
Xenalon darf nicht eingenommen werden bei schweren Nierenfunktionsstörungen, bei bestimmten Elektrolytstörungen (z.B. zu hohe Kaliumspiegel oder zu tiefe Natriumspiegel), bei gleichzeitiger Einnahme von Eplerenon sowie bei bekannter Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber Spironolacton oder einem der Hilfsstoffe gemäss Zusammensetzung.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fähigkeit Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen und die Fahrtüchtigkeit beeinträchtigen!
Bei Patienten mit beeinträchtigter Nierenfunktion, schweren Störungen der Leberfunktion oder schwerer Herzschwäche ist bei der Anwendung von Xenalon besondere Vorsicht geboten. Der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin wird Laborprüfungen anordnen und bei Bedarf die Dosierung von Xenalon ändern, bzw. reduzieren.
Andere Arzneimittel können die Wirkung von Xenalon beeinflussen und umgekehrt.
Bei gleichzeitiger Einnahme oder Verabreichung von kaliumhaltigen Arzneimitteln, kalium-reicher Diät, kaliumhaltigen Salzersatzprodukten, Kaliumspiegel erhöhenden Arzneimitteln (z.B. Trimethoprim haltige Mittel gegen Infektionskrankheiten), gewissen blutverdünnenden Arzneimitteln (Heparin oder niedermolekulare Heparine), gewissen blutdrucksenkenden Mitteln (ACE-Hemmer, Angiotensin II-Hemmer) oder entzündungshemmenden Mitteln sowie Arzneimitteln, die Gegenspieler des Hormons Aldosteron sind (Aldosteron-Rezeptorantagonist), besteht das Risiko eines schwerwiegenden, zu hohen Kaliumspiegels, insbesondere bei gleichzeitigem Nierenversagen.
Xenalon kann die Wirkung anderer Arzneimittel, die die Harnausscheidung stimulieren (Diuretika), verstärken, und die Verstoffwechselung von Arzneimitteln, die Digoxin enthalten, verlängern. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird deshalb die Dosierung anpassen. Bei Kombination mit bestimmten Schmerzmitteln (z.B. Aspirin) kann es zu einer Erhöhung der Kaliumspiegel im Blut kommen. Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin, wenn Sie gleichzeitig Schmerzmittel einnehmen. Während der Behandlung mit Xenalon soll auf Alkoholgenuss weitgehendst verzichtet werden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
Xenalon soll während der Schwangerschaft nicht eingenommen werden, ausser Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin verschreibt es Ihnen ausdrücklich bei einer lebensbedrohlichen Erkrankung. Stillende Mütter sollen Xenalon nicht einnehmen. Falls der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin Xenalon ausdrücklich verordnet hat, sollte vorher abgestillt werden.
Die Dosis und die Dauer der Behandlung wird von Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin bestimmt. Die durchschnittliche Dosis beträgt zu Anfang der Behandlung 100 bis 200 mg/Tag.
Anschliessend kann die Dosis herabgesetzt werden. Nehmen Sie die Lactab vorzugsweise zum Frühstück oder Mittagessen mit etwas Wasser ein. Es ist vor allem bei Behandlungsbeginn nicht empfehlenswert die Einnahme abends vorzunehmen, und zwar wegen der später einsetzenden nächtlichen Harnausscheidung.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Xenalon auftreten:
Störungen im Magen-Darm-Bereich (Durchfall, Krämpfe), Schläfrigkeit, Kopfschmerzen, Schwindel oder Hautausschläge (auch schwerwiegender Art z.B. mit Blasenbildung oder Hautablösung), Antriebsschwäche, Verwirrtheit, Bewegungsstörungen, Veränderungen im Blutbild, Juckreiz, Nesselausschlag, Haarausfall, vermehrte Behaarung, Unwohlsein, Fieber, Veränderung der Elektrolyte im Blut und damit verbunden Herzbeschwerden, Herzrhythmusstörungen, Veränderung der Libido.
Selten kommt es zu Magenblutungen, -geschwüren, -entzündungen, Gelbsucht, abnormaler Leberfunktion, gutartigen Veränderungen in der Brust, Beinkrämpfen, Nierenbeschwerden.
Ein Anschwellen der Brustdrüsen oder Potenzstörungen, eine Verminderung der Spermienanzahl können gelegentlich beim Mann auftreten.
Unregelmässige Monatsblutung oder Ausbleiben der Monatsblutung; postklimakterische Blutungen, Schmerzen in den Brüsten.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf der Packung mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
