Solmucol enthält den Wirkstoff Acetylcystein. Dieser Wirkstoff verflüssigt und löst den zähen, festsitzenden Schleim in den Luftwegen und fördert den Auswurf.
Solmucol ist zur Behandlung von Atemwegserkrankungen, die mit festem und zähem Schleim einhergehen indiziert, wie zum Beispiel Erkältungskrankheiten, akute Bronchitis oder Grippe.
Solmucol kann auch auf Verschreibung des Arztes, bzw. der Ärztin bei chronischer Bronchitis, Rachenschleimhaut-, Kehlkopfschleimhaut-, Luftröhren- und Nasennebenhöhlenentzündung, sowie bei Bronchialasthma oder zur unterstützenden Behandlung einer angeborenen Stoffwechselstörung, Mukoviszidose oder zystische Fibrose genannt, die durch eine vermehrte Bildung von besonders zähflüssigem Schleim in den Atem- und Verdauungsorganen charakterisiert ist, angewendet werden.
Die Wirkung von Solmucol wird durch reichliches Trinken gefördert.
Weil das Rauchen zu einer übermässigen Ansammlung von Bronchialschleim beiträgt, können Sie die Wirkung von Solmucol unterstützen, indem Sie auf das Rauchen verzichten.
Da Solmucol keine diabetogenen Süssstoffe enthält, kann es von Diabetikern eingenommen werden.
Dennoch sollte beachtet werden, dass jeder Granulat-Beutel einen Kaloriengehalt von insgesamt 5 kcal oder 21 kJ (Solmucol Granulat 100), bzw. 4,6 kcal oder 19 kJ (Solmucol Granulat 200), bzw. 8 kcal oder 34 kJ (Solmucol Granulat 600) hat.
Solmucol darf nicht angewendet werden bei Überempfindlichkeit (Allergie) gegen den Wirkstoff oder einen im Arzneimittel enthaltenen Hilfsstoff, bei Magendarmgeschwür oder während der Stillzeit.
Wegen seines hohen Wirkstoffgehaltes darf Solmucol 600 zur Behandlung von Kindern unter 12 Jahren (bei Mucoviszidose unter 6 Jahren) nicht verwendet werden.
Ausserdem darf Solmucol nicht zusammen mit hustenstillenden Mitteln verwendet werden. Durch eine zu starke Unterdrückung des Hustenreflexes kann sonst der durch Solmucol verflüssigte Schleim nicht ausgehustet werden, was zu einem gefährlichen Sekretstau mit der Gefahr einer Atemwegsinfektion und eines Bronchialkrampfes führen kann. Ihr Arzt, bzw. Ihre Ärztin weiss, was in solchen Fällen zu tun ist.
Wenn Sie schon einmal nach der Einnahme eines acetylcysteinhaltigen Arzneimittels (Wirkstoff von Solmucol) mit Atembeschwerden oder Hautausschlägen reagiert haben, sollten Sie vor der Einnahme dieses Arzneimittels unbedingt Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Wenn Sie an Bronchialasthma leiden oder wenn bei Ihnen die Gefahr von Blutungen im Magen-Darm-Bereich (zum Beispiel bei Magendarmgeschwüren oder bei Varizen der Speiseröhre) besteht, sollten Sie Solmucol nur unter ärztlicher Kontrolle einnehmen.
Die gleichzeitige Einnahme bestimmter Arzneimittel kann zur gegenseitigen Beeinflussung der Wirkungen führen. So kann die Wirkung gewisser Arzneimittel gegen die Verengung der Atemwege (Bronchodilatatoren), sowie der bei Durchblutungsstörungen der Herzkranzgefässe verwendeten Arzneimittel (Nitroglyzerin bei Angina pectoris) durch Solmucol verstärkt werden.
Wenn Sie (auf Verschreibung des Arztes, bzw. der Ärztin) auch bestimmte Antibiotika einnehmen müssen, sollten Sie zwischen der Einnahme dieser Antibiotika und Solmucol einen zeitlichen Abstand von mindestens 2 Stunden einhalten. Ihr Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogist, bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin kann Ihnen Auskunft geben, welche Antibiotika betroffen sind.
Gleichzeitige Verabreichung eines Arzneimittels gegen den Husten, siehe «Wann darf Solmucol nicht angewendet werden?».
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
Aufgrund der bisherigen Erfahrungen ist bei bestimmungsgemässer Anwendung kein Risiko für das Kind bekannt. Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden aber nie durchgeführt.
Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten oder den Arzt oder den Apotheker, bzw. die Ärztin oder die Apothekerin um Rat fragen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin falls Sie während der Behandlung mit Solmucol schwanger werden sollten.
Müssen Sie Solmucol während der Stillzeit zwingend einnehmen, so sollten Sie Ihr Kind vorsichtshalber nicht stillen.
Falls vom Arzt, bzw. der Ärztin nicht anders verordnet, werden folgende Dosierungen empfohlen:
3× täglich 1 Beutel Granulat zu 200 mg oder
1× täglich 1 Beutel Granulat zu 600 mg.
3× täglich 1 Beutel Granulat zu 100 mg.
3× täglich ½ Beutel Granulat zu 100 mg.
Solmucol ist nur unter ärztlicher Aufsicht im Krankenhaus anzuwenden.
Wenn, zum Beispiel bei Erkältungshusten, die übermässige Schleimbildung nach zwei Behandlungswochen nicht zurückgeht, sollte der Arzt, bzw. die Ärztin zu Rate gezogen werden, damit er/sie die Ursache genauer abklärt und eine eventuelle bösartige Erkrankung der Atemwege ausschliessen kann.
400?600 mg Solmucol Granulat täglich, verteilt auf 2 oder mehreren Gaben, Behandlungsdauer auf maximal 3?6 Monate beschränkt.
Wie oben, jedoch bereits für Kinder ab 6 Jahren: 1× täglich 1 Beutel Granulat zu 600 mg.
Wegen der Schwere der Erkrankung kann der Arzt, bzw. die Ärztin, dem Patientenzustand entsprechend, eine unterschiedliche Dosierung verschreiben.
Den Beutelinhalt in ein leeres Glas geben und mit etwas Wasser lösen.
Es wird empfohlen, keine anderen Arzneimittel gleichzeitig mit Solmucol einzunehmen.
Die Wirkung von Solmucol zeigt sich 2 bis 3 Tage nach Behandlungsbeginn.
Beim Öffnen des Beutels ist ein leichter Schwefelgeruch wahrnehmbar. Dieser ist typisch für Acetylcystein; es weist auf keine Veränderung des Produktes hin und beeinflusst die Wirkung des Arzneimittels nicht.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt oder der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, sprechen Sie bitte mit ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Solmucol auftreten:
Magen-Darm-Störungen wie Erbrechen, Durchfall, Übelkeit, Bauchschmerzen oder Entzündungen der Mundschleimhaut, sowie Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen, Nesselsucht, Kopfschmerzen und Fieber.
Im Weiteren können beschleunigter Puls, tiefer Blutdruck und Ohrgeräusche, Sodbrennen, sowie Blutungen und Wasseransammlungen im Gesicht vorkommen.
Bei dafür veranlagten Personen kann es zu allergischen Reaktionen der Haut (Hautausschlag und Juckreiz) und der Atmungsorgane (Atmungsbeschwerden, Bronchospasmen) kommen. In diesem Fall müssen Sie die Behandlung mit Solmucol sofort abbrechen und Ihren Arzt, bzw. Ihre Ärztin aufsuchen.
Der Atem kann ? wahrscheinlich durch Abspalten von Schwefelwasserstoff aus dem Wirkstoff ? vorübergehend einen unangenehmen Geruch bekommen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Solmucol soll vor Licht geschützt, bei Raumtemperatur (15?25 °C), sowie ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahrt werden.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Bitte bringen Sie Arzneimittel, deren Verfalldatum abgelaufen ist, in die Apotheke oder Drogerie zur Entsorgung zurück.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogist, bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
