Prontolax ist ein Abführmittel mit Wirkung am Dickdarm. Es löst die stuhlfördernde Eigenbewegung des Dickdarms aus. Prontolax kann auch verabreicht werden, wenn Pressdruck vermieden werden muss, z.B. bei Hämorrhoiden und Afterschrunden.
Prontolax wird kurzfristig bei Darmträgheit (Obstipation), Verstopfung infolge Bettruhe, ungewohnter Kost oder auf Reisen angewendet. Vor Röntgenaufnahmen im Magendarmbereich und vor Operationen hilft Prontolax zur Darmentleerung.
Bei Kindern, Patientinnen und Patienten mit schweren Erkrankungen ist ärztliche Beratung erforderlich. Bei chronischer Verstopfung muss deren Ursprung vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin bestimmt werden. Langzeitbehandlung gehört unter ärztliche Kontrolle.
Bei Verstopfung sollten Sie, wenn möglich, ballaststoffreiche Nahrung (Gemüse, Früchte, Vollkornbrot) sowie viel und regelmässig Flüssigkeit einnehmen und auf körperliche Betätigung (Sport) achten.
Prontolax darf nicht angewendet werden bei bekannter Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber dem Wirkstoff oder einem der Inhaltsstoffe (Galactose- und Fructose-Intoleranz: siehe «Wann ist bei der Anwendung von Prontolax Vorsicht geboten»), bei Darmverengung, Darmverschluss (Ileus), akuten Erkrankungen in der Bauchhöhle wie akuter Blinddarmentzündung und akuter Darmentzündung sowie bei starken abdominalen Schmerzen in Kombination mit Übelkeit und Erbrechen, welche auf eine schwere Erkrankung hindeuten.
Prontolax darf nicht angewendet werden bei schwerem Flüssigkeits- und Kaliummangel.
Kindern unter 12 Jahre sollte Prontolax nur nach ärztlicher Empfehlung verabreicht werden. Wie bei allen Laxantien ist auch bei Prontolax eine kontinuierliche tägliche Anwendung über einen längeren Zeitraum als 1?2 Wochen nicht angezeigt. Wenn Laxantien täglich gebraucht werden, sollte die Ursache der Verstopfung untersucht werden. Langzeitbehandlungen gehören unter ärztliche Kontrolle.
Bei längerdauernder oder hochdosierter Anwendung können Wasser- und Mineralverluste (Kalium) eintreten und zu Muskelschwäche führen sowie eine Verstärkung der Darmträgheit verursachen. Flüssigkeitsverluste im Darm können einen Flüssigkeitsverlust im Körper begünstigen, welcher Durst und verminderte Harnausscheidung auslösen kann. Bei Patienten, bei welchen sich dies nachteilig auswirken könnte, wie z.B. bei Niereninsuffizienz und älteren Patienten, sollte Prontolaxabgesetzt und nur unter ärztlicher Aufsicht wieder eingesetzt werden. Es kann ein im Allgemeinen milder, selbst limitierender Blutstuhl auftreten. Patientinnen oder Patienten, die wassertreibende Arzneimittel, orale Kortikosteroide oder Digitalispräparate einnehmen, sollten Prontolax nur nach Rücksprache mit dem Arzt oder der Ärztin einnehmen.
In sehr seltenen Einzelfällen sind bei Patientinnen und Patienten, die Prontolax eingenommen haben, Schwindel- oder kurzzeitige Bewusstlosigkeitsanfälle (Synkopen) aufgetreten. Nach den entsprechenden Fallberichten handelt es sich dabei vermutlich um Synkopen, die entweder auf den Abführvorgang an sich, auf das Pressen oder auf über das Nervensystem auf Grund von verstopfungsbedingten Unterleibsschmerzen vermittelte Gefässreaktionen, nicht notwendigerweise aber auf die Anwendung von Prontolax selbst zurückgehen.
Wenn abdominale Krämpfe auftreten, sollten potenziell gefährliche Tätigkeiten wie Autofahren oder das Bedienen von Maschinen vermieden werden.
Prontolaxwirkt im Dickdarm. Zur Beeinflussung der Nährstoffaufnahme und somit der Kalorienzufuhr ist es nicht wirksam, da die Nährstoffaufnahme vorwiegend bereits im Dünndarm stattfindet.
Ein Prontolax Dragée enthält 27.2 mg Lactose und 30.3 mg Saccharose. Bei einer Behandlung der Verstopfung bei Erwachsenen und Kindern über 12 Jahre entspricht dies täglich bis zu 54.4 mg Lactose und 60.6 mg Saccharose. Patienten mit einer seltenen erblichen Galactose-Intoleranz, z.B. einer Galactosämie bzw. einer seltenen erblichen Fructose-Intoleranz sollten die Dragées nicht einnehmen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbst gekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und der Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten.
Nur Ihr Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin kann entscheiden, ob Prontolax in der Schwangerschaft oder Stillzeit verwendet werden darf.
Soweit vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin nicht anders verschrieben:
Durchschnittliche Einzeldosis: 1?2 Dragées pro Tag.
Nach Verschreibung des Arztes bzw. der Ärztin.
Die Dragées sollten abends vor dem Schlafengehen eingenommen werden, damit die Darmentleerung am anderen Morgen erfolgt. Bei Einnahme am Abend kommt es nach etwa 10 Stunden, also ohne Störung der Nachtruhe, am nächsten Morgen zu ein bis zwei Entleerungen.
Prontolax Dragées werden unzerkaut mit ausreichend Flüssigkeit geschluckt (keine Milch). Milch und Arzneimittel gegen Magenübersäuerung sollen nicht gleichzeitig mit Prontolax Dragées eingenommen werden, da sich sonst die Dragées rascher als gewünscht auflösen. Wenn Sie ein Antacidum (Arzneimittel gegen Magenübersäuerung) benötigen, nehmen Sie es eine halbe Stunde nach Prontolax ein.
Durchschnittliche Einzeldosis: 1 Zäpfchen pro Tag, welches von der Folienhülle befreit und mit dem spitzen Ende in den Mastdarm eingeführt wird.
Kennzeichnend für die Wirkung ist die Auslösung von ein bis zwei beschwerdefreien Entleerungen schon innerhalb von 20 Minuten (im Bereich von 10-30 Minuten).

Zäpfchen können besonders bei Patienten mit Afterschrunden und akuter Enddarmentzündung zu Schmerzempfindungen und lokalen Reizungen führen.
Es wird empfohlen mit der niedrigsten Dosis zu beginnen. Um einen regelmässigen Stuhlgang zu erreichen, kann die Dosis bis zur empfohlenen Maximaldosis erhöht werden. Die tägliche Maximaldosis darf nicht überschritten werden.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
Nach Einnahme von Prontolax kann es zu unangenehmen Empfindungen wie Blähungen kommen: häufig treten Bauchkrämpfe, Bauchschmerzen, oder Durchfall auf; gelegentlich kommt es zu Erbrechen, Schwindel, Blutstuhl und Beschwerden im Bauch- und/oder im Analbereich. Selten treten Synkopen (kurz andauernde Bewusstlosigkeit), Dehydratation, Dickdarmentzündung und Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen auf, die bis hin zu allergischen Haut- und Schockerscheinungen (Angioödem, anaphylaktische Reaktionen) führen können. Das Auftreten von Durchfall ist Zeichen einer zu hohen Dosierung und ist nur vor dem Röntgen oder vor Operationen erwünscht.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
