Gatinar wird bei allen Formen der Verstopfung verwendet, besonders
-nach Operationen;
-während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit (nach Rücksprache mit dem Arzt bzw. Ärztin);
-bei Bettlägrigkeit;
-zur Behandlung von chronischer Verstopfung.
Die Wirksubstanz von Gatinar ? Lactulose ? ist ein künstlicher Zucker, der vom menschlichen Dünndarm nicht aufgespalten werden kann. Er gelangt deshalb unverändert in den Dickdarm und dient dort den natürlich vorkommenden Milchsäure-Bakterien als Nährstoff. Dabei entstehen saure Abbauprodukte, vorwiegend Milchsäure, die eine leichte Ansäuerung des Dickdarms bewirken. Die Fäulnisbakterien werden in ihrem Wachstum gehemmt und die Wiederherstellung der normalen Darmflora begünstigt. Gleichzeitig wirken Gatinar und seine Abbaupodukte wasseranziehend (osmotisch). Dadurch wird der Stuhl weich und die Entleerung erleichtert. Gatinar ermöglicht eine natürliche Korrektur der Darmtätigkeit ohne Gewöhnungsgefahr oder schmerzhafte Reizungen. Es kann in den angegebenen Dosierungen und nur nach Rücksprache mit dem Arzt bzw. der Ärztin auch von Schwangeren, Stillenden und Diabetikern (siehe auch Hinweise weiter unten) eingenommen werden. Beim Säugling erfolgt bereits einige Stunden nach der Einnahme von Gatinar eine weiche Stuhlentleerung. Beim Erwachsenen benötigt die Umstellung der Darmflora etwa 1?2 Tage.
Sollten Sie unter chronischer Verstopfung leiden, empfiehlt es sich, Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin aufzusuchen. Bei Verstopfungen sollten Sie, wenn möglich, ballaststoffreiche Nahrung (Gemüse, Früchte, Vollkornbrot) sowie viel und regelmässig Flüssigkeit einnehmen und auf körperliche Betätigung (Sport) achten.
Hinweis für Diabetiker: Dieses Arzneimittel enthält 1.8 g verwertbare Kohlenhydrate pro Einzeldosis (10 ml).
Bei Erkrankungen des Magendarmtraktes darf das Präparat nicht eingenommen werden. Bei Milchzucker-Unverträglichkeit (Laktose-Intoleranz) und bei einer angeborenen Stoffwechselkrankheit des Säuglings (Galaktosämie) darf Gatinar nicht eingenommen werden.
Wie jedes Abführmittel kann Gatinar die Kaliumverluste, die durch andere Arzneimittel (z.B. gewisse harntreibende Mittel, Kortikosteroide, u.a.) verursacht werden, verstärken. Dies ist von spezieller Bedeutung bei mit herzwirksamen Arzneimitteln (Herzglykoside, Antiarrhythmika) behandelten Patienten. Diese sollen Gatinar daher nur unter strikter Anweisung des Arztes bzw. der Ärztin anwenden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Aufgrund der bisherigen Erfahrungen ist bei bestimmungsgemässer Anwendung kein Risiko für das Kind bekannt. Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden aber nie durchgeführt. Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten oder den Arzt oder den Apotheker bzw. die Ärztin oder die Apothekerin um Rat fragen.

Es empfiehlt sich, unbedingt mit der niedrigen Anfangsdosis zu beginnen. Eine zu hohe Anfangsdosis könnte zu vermehrter Gasbildung und Blähungen führen, da durch die Wiederherstellung der normalen Darmflora vorübergehend der Bakterien-Stoffwechsel angeregt wird. Bei allmählicher Steigerung der täglichen Dosis bis zur individuellen optimalen Menge wird dies vermieden. Die Umstimmung der Darmflora erlaubt es selbst in Fällen von chronischer Verstopfung, die angegebene Dosis nach 3?4 Tagen zu reduzieren. Es ist auch möglich, mit der Zeit abwechslungsweise einen oder mehrere arzneimittelfreie Tage einzuschalten. Bei nur kurzdauernder Verstopfung wird das Arzneimittel selbstverständlich nach der Normalisierung der Stuhlentleerung abgesetzt.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt oder der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Gatinar auftreten:
In seltenen Fällen, insbesondere zu Beginn der Behandlung, kann das Präparat Blähungen oder Bauchkrämpfe verursachen. Bei hohen Dosen, längerem oder zu häufigem Gebrauch können Durchfälle mit Wasserverlust und Störungen des Mineralstoffhaushaltes (u.a. Kaliumverlust) auftreten.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogist, bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
