Braunol ist eine wässerige, standardisierte Povidon-Iod-Lösung zur äusserlichen Anwendung.
In der Selbstmedikation wird Braunol angewendet zur Desinfektion der Haut und Schleimhaut, zur Desinfektion von oberflächlichen Wunden und kleinflächigen, leichten Verbrennungen (Verbrennungen ohne Blasenbildung).
Grossflächige, stark verschmutzte und tiefe Wunden, sowie Biss- und Stichwunden benötigen eine ärztliche Behandlung (Gefahr von Wundstarrkrampf). Bleibt der Umfang einer Wunde während einiger Zeit unverändert gross oder verheilt die Wunde nicht innerhalb von 10?14 Tagen, ist ebenfalls ein Arztbesuch erforderlich. Ebenso, wenn die Wundränder stark gerötet sind, die Wunde plötzlich anschwillt, stark schmerzhaft ist oder die Verletzung von Fieber begleitet wird (Gefahr einer Blutvergiftung).
Braunol darf nicht angewendet werden:
bei bekannter Iodüberempfindlichkeit;
bei einer Schilddrüsenüberfunktion oder anderen bestehenden Schilddrüsenerkrankungen;
bei Dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring (seltene herpesähnliche Hauterkrankung);
1 bis 2 Wochen vor einer Radio-Iod-Behandlung;
bei Säuglingen unter 6 Monaten.
Braunol soll nicht gleichzeitig mit anderen Desinfektionsmitteln angewendet werden, da dies die Wirkung abschwächen kann.
In den folgenden Fällen soll Braunol nicht beziehungsweise nur nach ärztlicher Abklärung und Verschreibung verwendet werden:
nach einer Schilddrüsenerkrankung;
bei eingeschränkter Nierenfunktion;
bei Säuglingen über 6 Monaten.
Braunol sollte ohne ärztliche Überwachung nicht über einen längeren Zeitraum angewendet werden.
Es ist bei der Anwendung darauf zu achten, dass sich Braunol nicht in Hautfalten oder unter dem liegenden Patienten ansammelt oder unter Elektrodenkontaktstellen dringt. Durch die grossen Mengen von Iod und die Leitfähigkeit der Lösung können in solchen Situationen Hautirritationen oder sogar Hautschädigungen auftreten.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbst gekaufte) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
Wenn Sie schwanger sind oder stillen, sollten Sie Braunol nicht anwenden ausser auf ausdrückliche ärztliche Verschreibung.
Braunol auf die zu desinfizierende Stelle auftragen und eintrocknen lassen.
Bei Kleinkindern ab 6 Monaten bis 6 Jahre darf Braunol nur gemäss ärztlicher Verschreibung und unter ärztlicher Überwachung angewendet werden.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt bzw. der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
Gelegentlich können Haut- und Schleimhautreizungen, selten allergische Reaktionen (z.B. Hautrötungen, Iodschnupfen, Bindehautentzündung) vorkommen, sehr selten mit Atemwegs- und Kreislaufsymptomen. In solchen Fällen ist die Behandlung mit Braunol sofort abzubrechen und der Arzt/die Ärztin zu informieren.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Ausser Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahren.
Bei Raumtemperatur (15?25 °C) lagern.
Braunol darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Braunol-Flecken können aus textilen Geweben mit Wasser und Seife, in hartnäckigen Fällen mit verdünntem Salmiakgeist oder Natrium-Thiosulfatlösung entfernt werden.
