Bei der gutartigen Prostatahyperplasie (Vergrösserung der Vorsteherdrüse) sind die Funktionsstörungen nicht nur durch die Volumenzunahme bedingt, sondern auch durch eine Nervenkomponente. Diese bewirkt ihrerseits eine Spannungserhöhung im Bereich der glatten Muskulatur der unteren Harnwege und führt zu Beschwerden beim Wasserlösen.
Alfuzosin blockiert die Übertragung dieses Nervenstimulus im Bereich der Prostata, was zu einer Abnahme der Spannung führt und damit das Wasserlösen erleichtert.
Xatral 2,5 mg wird zur Behandlung der Symptome bei Prostatahyperplasie verwendet und dies nur nach ärztlicher Verordnung.
Nur Ihr Arzt kann entscheiden, ob Ihnen diese Behandlung verschrieben werden darf.
Sie dürfen dieses Medikament nicht einnehmen
Sie müssen unbedingt Ihren Arzt informieren wenn Sie Medikamente für das Herz oder gegen hohen Blutdruck (Hypertonie) nehmen.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und die Fähigkeit, Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen, beeinträchtigen.
Gewisse Patienten können auf Xatral 2,5 mg besonders empfindlich reagieren, was an einem Blutdruckabfall im Stehen erkennbar ist. Die Gefahr, dass ein Blutdruckabfall zu Nebenwirkungen führt, kann bei älteren Menschen höher sein. Diese Erscheinung, die in den ersten Stunden nach der Einnahme des Medikaments auftreten kann, gehen Müdigkeitserscheinungen, Schwindelgefühl, und Schweissausbrüche voraus, die bis zum Bewusstseinsverlust gehen kann. Falls dies auftreten sollte, legen Sie sich hin und lagern Sie die Beine hoch, bis diese vorübergehenden Beschwerden vollständig abgeklungen sind.
Bei Patienten mit vorbestehenden symptomatischen oder asymptomatischen Durchblutungsstörungen im Gehirn besteht die Gefahr von zerebralen ischämischen Störungen, da es im Anschluss an die Verabreichung von Alfuzosin zu einem Blutdruckabfall kommen kann.
Alfuzosin soll bei Patienten mit schwerer Niereninsuffizienz nur mit Vorsicht angewendet werden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie:

Halten Sie sich streng an die Anweisungen Ihres Arztes.
Die weiter unten angegebene Dosierung ist nur zur Information, für Patienten ohne spezielle Herz-Kreislaufprobleme:
Nach Anweisung Ihres Arztes, 1 Tablette zwei bis dreimal täglich einnehmen.
Soweit vom Arzt nicht anders verordnet, die erste Dosis der Behandlung abends vor dem Zubettgehen einnehmen.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Xatral 2,5 mg auftreten: Bewusstlosigkeit/Benommenheit, Schwindelgefühl, Unwohlsein, Kopfschmerzen, Hypotonie, Übelkeit, Bauchschmerz, Durchfall, Mundtrockenheit, Schwäche, Unwohlsein.
Im Verlauf der Behandlung muss jede andere ungewöhnliche Wirkung, wie z.B. Schläfrigkeit, anormales Sehen, Juckreiz, Hautausschlag, Herzklopfen, Tachykardie, Schmerzen in der Brust, Schwellung der Arme oder der Beine, Ohnmacht, Rhinitis, Rötung, sehr selten: Nesselsucht, Gesichtsschwellung (Angioödem), Herzrhythmusstörungen, zerebrovaskuläre Zwischenfälle (bei Patienten mit einer vorbestehenden Zerebralarteriensklerose) oder schmerzhafte Dauererektion (ohne Erregung), sofort dem behandelnden Arzt gemeldet werden. In sehr seltenen Fällen wurde eine schwere Arzneimittelkomplikation mit der Bezeichnung «Syndrom der verbrühten Haut» beobachtet.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Soweit vom Arzt nicht anders verordnet, nehmen Sie zu Beginn der Behandlungen die erste Dosis am Abend vor dem Zubettgehen ein.
Falls Sie Fahrzeugführer sind oder Maschinen bedienen, ist besondere Vorsicht angebracht, da Ihre Reaktionsfähigkeit, besonders zu Beginn der Behandlung und vor allem bei Schwindelgefühl oder Blutdruckabfall, beeinträchtigt sein kann.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Das Medikament bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) und ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahren.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
