Valtan-Mepha enthält eine Wirksubstanz, die das blutdruckregulierende System des Körpers beeinflusst. Es führt zur Erweiterung der Blutgefässe und senkt damit den Blutdruck. Der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin kann die Wirkung des Arzneimittels mittels Blutdruckmessung nachweisen.
Valtan-Mepha wird zur Behandlung des leichten bis mittelschweren Bluthochdrucks eingesetzt. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin kann Valtan-Mepha auch bei milder bis mittelschwerer Herzinsuffizienz (Herzmuskelschwäche, ungenügende Herzleistung) in Kombination mit anderen Arzneimitteln einsetzen, wenn andere üblicherweise für die Erkrankung verwendete Arzneimittel wegen bestimmter Nebenwirkungen ungeeignet sind. Valtan-Mepha kann auch zur Behandlung von Patienten nach einem Myokardinfarkt (Herzinfarkt) eingesetzt werden. Valtan-Mepha darf nur auf Verschreibung des Arztes bzw. der Ärztin angewendet werden.
Wenn ein hoher Blutdruck nicht behandelt wird, können lebenswichtige Organe wie das Herz, die Nieren und das Hirn geschädigt werden. Sie können sich wohl fühlen und keine Symptome haben, aber die unbehandelte Hypertonie kann zu Spätfolgen wie z.B. Hirnschlag, Herzinfarkt, Herzschwäche, Nierenfunktionsstörung oder Erblinden führen.
Wenn Sie jemals ungewöhnlich oder allergisch auf Valsartan (Wirkstoff von Valtan-Mepha) oder einen anderen Bestandteil dieses Arzneimittels reagiert haben oder wenn Sie schwanger sind oder planen, schwanger zu werden oder stillen, dürfen Sie Valtan-Mepha nicht oder nicht mehr einnehmen, ohne mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin darüber gesprochen zu haben.
Wenn Sie an Diabetes (Typ 1 oder Typ 2) oder eingeschränkter Nierenfunktion leiden, während Sie den blutdrucksenkenden Wirkstoff Aliskiren einnehmen, dürfen Sie Valtan-Mepha nicht einnehmen.
Sie sollten Valtan-Mepha bei schweren Nierenfunktionsstörungen nicht nehmen, da dazu keine Erfahrungen vorliegen.
Falls früher anlässlich der Einnahme eines blutdrucksenkenden Arzneimittels Schwellungen im Gesicht, der Lippen, der Zunge oder im Rachen (Schluck- oder Atembeschwerden) auftraten, dürfen Sie Valtan-Mepha nicht einnehmen.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und die Fähigkeit, Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen, beeinträchtigen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin vor Beginn der Behandlung mit Valtan-Mepha,
Ein eventuell bestehender Salz-/Flüssigkeitsmangel ? z.B. durch übermässiges Erbrechen, Durchfall oder Diuretika (harntreibende Mittel) ? ist vor Beginn der Behandlung auszugleichen.
Vorsicht ist geboten, wenn Sie mit einem ACE-Hemmer oder Aliskiren (Arzneimittel gegen Bluthochdruck) behandelt werden.Wenn Sie gleichzeitig mit Valtan-Mepha ein anderes Arzneimittel einnehmen, informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin darüber. Möglicherweise ist es notwendig, die Dosierung zu verändern, bestimmte Vorsichtsmassnahmen zu treffen oder eines der Arzneimittel wegzulassen. Das gilt sowohl für rezeptpflichtige wie für rezeptfreie Arzneimittel, vor allem jedoch
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
Die Wirksamkeit und die Sicherheit der Behandlung bei Kindern und Jugendlichen (unter 18 Jahre) wurden nicht überprüft. Deshalb sollte Valtan-Mepha Kindern und Jugendlichen nicht verabreicht werden.
Sie dürfen Valtan-Mepha nicht einnehmen, wenn Sie schwanger sind oder planen, schwanger zu werden.
Von ähnlichen Arzneimitteln ist bekannt, dass sie das ungeborene Kind bei Anwendung während der Schwangerschaft schwer schädigen können. Deshalb ist es wichtig, dass Sie sofort Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin aufsuchen, wenn Sie glauben, Sie könnten schwanger sein. Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin auch, falls Sie eine Schwangerschaft planen.
Ist eine Behandlung während der Stillzeit erforderlich, ist abzustillen.
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin entscheidet über die für Sie richtige Dosierung.
Zur Behandlung des Bluthochdrucks beträgt die übliche Dosierung einmal täglich 1 Filmtablette zu 80 mg Valsartan (Wirkstoff von Valtan-Mepha). Wird mit dieser Dosis keine Blutdrucknormalisierung erreicht, kann die Dosis auf 160 mg Valsartan (1 Filmtablette à 160 mg bzw. 2 Filmtabletten à 80 mg) erhöht werden.
Falls eine verstärkte Blutdrucksenkung erforderlich ist, kann Valtan-Mepha auf Verschreibung Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin mit anderen blutdrucksenkenden Arzneimitteln eingenommen werden, insbesondere harntreibenden Mitteln (Diuretika).
Zur Behandlung der Herzinsuffizienz beträgt die Anfangsdosis im Allgemeinen 2× täglich ½ Filmtablette zu 80 mg. Die Dosis wird schrittweise auf 2× täglich 1 Filmtablette zu 80 mg bis 2× täglich 1 Filmtablette zu 160 mg gesteigert, je nach Verträglichkeit.
Nach einem Herzinfarkt wird im Allgemeinen bereits nach 12 Stunden mit der Behandlung begonnen, normalerweise mit der niedrigen Dosis von 2× täglich 20 mg. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird die Dosis innerhalb weniger Wochen schrittweise auf die höchste vertragene Dosierung bis zu einer Zieldosierung von 2× täglich 160 mg erhöhen.
Die Einzeldosis von 20 mg erhalten Sie durch Teilen der 40 mg-Filmtablette.
Valtan-Mepha wird mit Flüssigkeit eingenommen. Die Einnahme kann unabhängig von einer Mahlzeit erfolgen.
Es empfiehlt sich, dass Sie Valtan-Mepha Filmtabletten täglich zur selben Zeit einnehmen, bei hohem Blutdruck z.B. morgens und bei Herzinsuffizienz oder nach Herzinfarkt morgens und abends. Haben Sie einmal die Einnahme vergessen, nehmen Sie die nächste Dosis zur üblichen Zeit ein. Verdoppeln Sie die Dosis nicht!
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Valtan-Mepha auftreten: Zu den häufigsten Nebenwirkungen bei der Einnahme von Valtan-Mepha gehören Schwindel infolge eines Blutdruckabfalles, vor allem beim Aufstehen nach dem Liegen oder Sitzen, sowie virale Infektionen.
Gelegentlich wurde über Infektionen der oberen Atemwege, Entzündung von Nasennebenhöhlen und Rachenbereich, Ohnmacht, Schlaflosigkeit sowie verminderter Libido, Schwindel, tiefen Blutdruck, Husten, Durchfall und Bauchschmerzen, Müdigkeit, Schwäche, Schwellung oder Flüssigkeitsansammlung und Rückenschmerzen berichtet.
Zu den seltenen Nebenwirkungen gehören Benommenheit und Nierenfunktionsstörungen.
Sehr selten kann es zu Schnupfen, Kopfschmerzen, Übelkeit und Erbrechen, Rötung oder Juckreiz, Gelenk- oder Muskelschmerzen, allergischen Reaktionen mit Schwellung im Gesicht und unregelmässigem Herzschlag kommen. Mit unbekannter Häufigkeit kann es zu Blasenbildung auf der Haut kommen.
Durchfall, Übelkeit, Gelenk- und Rückenschmerzen und Benommenheit können bei Patientinnen und Patienten mit Herzinsuffizienz häufiger auftreten. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird bei herzinsuffizienten Patientinnen und Patienten die Nierenfunktion überwachen.
Diese Nebenwirkungen sind nicht zwingend durch Valtan-Mepha verursacht, denn sie wurden auch an Patientinnen und Patienten festgestellt, die das Arzneimittel nicht eingenommen haben.
Wenn Sie eine allergische Reaktion mit Schwellung des Gesichts, der Lippen, des Rachens und/oder der Zunge (mit Schluck- oder Atembeschwerden) verspüren, unterbrechen Sie die Einnahme von Valtan-Mepha und setzen Sie sich sofort mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin in Verbindung.
Bei Patienten, die Valtan-Mepha nach einem Herzinfarkt einnehmen, kann es in ca. 1% der Patienten zu Nierenfunktionsstörungen oder niedrigem Blutdruck kommen. Meistens können diese Nebenwirkungen durch eine Dosisreduktion behoben werden.
Wenn Sie andere Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Arzneimittel sollen für Kinder unerreichbar aufbewahrt werden.
Valtan-Mepha soll nicht über 25 °C und in der Originalverpackung (vor Feuchtigkeit geschützt) aufbewahrt werden.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf der Packung mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
