Tavanic ist ein Arzneimittel zur Behandlung von bakteriellen Infektionskrankheiten. Tavanic gehört zur Antibiotika-Gruppe der Chinolone und ist wirksam gegen eine Vielzahl von Bakterienarten.

Die Verwendung als Mittel der zweiten Wahl ist zur Behandlung folgender Infektionskrankheiten angezeigt:
Tavanic darf nur auf ärztliche Verschreibung verwendet werden.
Dieses Arzneimittel wurde Ihnen von Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin zur Behandlung Ihrer gegenwärtigen Erkrankung verschrieben.
Das Antibiotikum Tavanic ist nicht gegen alle Mikroorganismen wirksam, welche Infektionskrankheiten verursachen. Die Anwendung eines falsch gewählten oder nicht richtig dosierten Antibiotikums kann Komplikationen verursachen. Wenden Sie es deshalb nie von sich aus für die Behandlung anderer Erkrankungen oder anderer Personen an. Auch bei einem Rückfall Ihrer gegenwärtigen Infektion dürfen Sie Tavanic nicht ohne erneute ärztliche Konsultation anwenden.
Patientinnen und Patienten mit bekannter oder vermuteter Überempfindlichkeit (Allergie) auf einen Inhaltsstoff von Tavanic oder auf ähnliche Arzneimittel (Arzt oder Ärztin befragen) dürfen Tavanic nicht einnehmen.
Epileptiker dürfen Tavanic nicht anwenden.
Patientinnen und Patienten, bei welchen während einer früheren Therapie mit Antibiotika der Klasse der Fluorochinolone Sehnenbeschwerden aufgetreten sind, sollten Tavanic nicht einnehmen, da bei der Einnahme von Tavanic dasselbe Risiko (inkl. Sehnenriss) besteht.
Von der Anwendung bei Patienten, die an einer Myasthenia gravis erkrankt sind bzw. waren, wird abgeraten.
Tavanic darf Kindern und Jugendlichen im Wachstum sowie schwangeren oder stillenden Frauen nicht verabreicht werden.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und die Fähigkeit zum Bedienen von Werkzeugen oder Maschinen beeinträchtigen.
Bei Patienten mit einem Risiko für epileptische Anfälle (wie z.B. nach Schädel-Hirn-Verletzung, Infektion im Schädelinnern oder Schlaganfall) oder bei Myasthenia gravis müssen Patienten besonders eng überwacht werden. Sprechen Sie bitte vor der Einnahme von Tavanic mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin.
Wenn die Nierenfunktion eingeschränkt ist, muss die Dosierung angepasst werden. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin ist informiert. Eine gleichzeitige Einnahme von Eisensalzen, Zink, Didasonin, Sucralfat oder Mitteln gegen Magenübersäuerung (wie z.B. magnesium- oder aluminiumhaltige Antazida) sollte vermieden werden, da sie die Wirksamkeit von Tavanic verringern können. Diese Arzneimittel sollten daher erst 2 Stunden nach Tavanic eingenommen werden.
Wenn Durchfälle während oder nach der Behandlung mit Tavanic auftreten, vor allem bei schweren, lang anhaltenden und/oder blutigen Durchfällen, kann dies auf eine Infektion mit dem Erreger Clostridium difficile hindeuten. Bei Verdacht einer solchen Komplikation müssen Sie die Behandlung mit Tavanic sofort abbrechen und Ihren Arzt zu Rate ziehen.
Bei Durchfällen dürfen keine Medikamente eingenommen werden, die die Darmperistaltik (Darmbewegungen) verlangsamen.
Es können Herzrhythmusstörungen auftreten, vor allem bei Patienten mit bereits bekannten Risikofaktoren, wie etwa ältere Patienten. Auch Frauen können hiervon besonders betroffen sein. Herzrhythmusstörungen können auch dann auftreten, wenn Sie an einer bisher unbehandelten Elektrolytentgleisung leiden, wenn Sie Herzbeschwerden haben oder hatten, wenn Sie bestimmte Antiarrhythmika, bestimmte Antidepressiva, Makrolide oder antipsychotische Medikamente einnehmen müssen.
Bei der gleichzeitigen Behandlung mit Tavanic und sog. Vitamin-K-Antagonisten («Blutverdünner») müssen die Blutgerinnungsparameter kontrolliert werden, da die Gefahr von Blutungen erhöht ist.
Die gleichzeitige Einnahme von gewissen Arzneimitteln wie Theophyllin oder Fenbufen (oder ähnlichen Arzneimitteln zur Behandlung von Rheuma und entzündlichen Krankheiten) kann das Risiko für epileptische Anfälle erhöhen.
Bei gleichzeitiger Einnahme von Cimetidin (ein magensäurehemmendes Arzneimittel) und Probenecid (ein Gichtmittel) ist Vorsicht geboten, weil sich der Blutspiegel des Wirkstoffs von Tavanic dadurch erhöhen kann.
In sehr seltenen Fällen kann Tavanic zu Sehnenentzündungen bis hin zur Sehnenruptur (Sehnenriss) führen, besonders bei älteren Menschen oder bei Patientinnen bzw. Patienten, welche gleichzeitig Kortikosteroide ( z.B. Prednison oder ähnliche Mittel) einnehmen. In diesem Fall muss unverzüglich ein Arzt kontaktiert sowie der betroffene Körperteil ruhig gestellt werden, um eine Schädigung der Sehnen zu verhindern. Die Sehnenentzündung bzw. -ruptur kann innerhalb von 48 Stunden nach Beginn der Behandlung und gelegentlich noch mehrere Monate nach Ende der Behandlung auftreten und kann beide Körperseiten betreffen.
Bei extremer Sonnenbestrahlung kann es zu Lichtempfindlichkeitsreaktionen (Hautrötung, Entzündung) kommen. Extreme Sonnenbestrahlung oder Benutzung eines Solariums sollte bei einer Behandlung mit Tavanic und bis zu 48 Stunden nach Ende der Behandlung vermieden werden. Falls Lichtempfindlichkeit auftritt, sollte die Behandlung abgebrochen werden.
Bei Glukose-6-Phosphat-Dehydrogenasemangel (einer erblichen Stoffwechselkrankheit) besteht das Risiko von schwerwiegenden Blutreaktionen.
Wie bei allen Antibiotika dieser Gruppe gibt es Berichte über Probleme aufgrund eines zu niedrigen Blutzuckerspiegels (Unterzuckerung) und eines zu hohen Blutzuckerspiegels (Überzuckerung), meistens bei Diabetikern, die mit einem oralen Blutzuckersenker (z.B. Glibenclamid) oder Insulin behandelt wurden. In diesem Fall empfiehlt sich eine strenge Überwachung des Blutzuckerspiegels.
Bei Behandlungen mit Chinolon-Antibiotika wie dem in Tavanic enthaltenen Levofloxacin kam es Berichten zufolge zu Schädigungen des peripheren Nervensystems. Die klinischen Symptome unterscheiden sich von Fall zu Fall, beinhalten jedoch neurologische Ausfallerscheinungen im Sinnes- bzw. Empfindungsbereich (z.B. «Ameisenlaufen», Verlust der Tast-, Wärme- oder Schmerzempfindung in den Gliedmassen oder aber im Gegenteil eine Überempfindlichkeit). Solche Nervenerkrankungen können rasch auftreten. Bei Symptomen einer Nervenerkrankung muss Tavanic abgesetzt werden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie
Während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit darf Tavanic nicht eingenommen werden.
Ohne ärztliche Verordnung ist Tavanic in folgender Dosierung einzunehmen:
500 mg Tavanic einmal täglich unzerkaut mit ausreichend Flüssigkeit einnehmen.
Die Tabletten sollten mindestens 2 Stunden vor oder nach der Einnahme von Eisensalzen, Zink, Magnesium oder säurebindenden Medikamenten, die Aluminium oder Didanosin oder Sucralfat enthalten, eingenommen werden. Andernfalls können sie die Wirkung des Antibiotikums abschwächen.
Tavanic darf bei Kindern und Jugendlichen unter 18 Jahren nicht angewendet werden.
Wie bei allen Antibiotika muss die vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin verordnete Dosierung und Therapiedauer strikt eingehalten werden. Nur so kann Tavanic die grösstmögliche Wirkung entfalten. Selbst wenn Sie sich besser fühlen, brechen Sie die Therapie nicht vorzeitig ab, denn die Krankheitszeichen klingen oft vor der vollständigen Heilung der Infektion ab. Eine ungenügende Anwendungsdauer oder ein zu frühes Beenden der Behandlung kann ein erneutes Aufflammen der Erkrankung zur Folge haben.
Tavanic kann unzerkaut sowohl auf nüchternen Magen mit etwas Flüssigkeit als auch mit dem Essen eingenommen werden. Die Dosierung von Tavanic wird von Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin festgelegt und richtet sich nach der Empfindlichkeit des Erregers und dem Ort der Infektion.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Sollten Sie eine Einnahme von Tavanic vergessen haben, so nehmen Sie die Tablette so bald als möglich ein, sofern nicht schon die nächste Dosis eingenommen werden soll. Sollte dies der Fall sein, nehmen Sie die vorgeschriebene und nicht die doppelte Dosierung ein, d.h. die vergessene(n) Tablette(n) wird (werden) nicht eingenommen.
Wenn Sie versehentlich eine Tablette zuviel eingenommen haben, sind keine Nebenwirkungen zu erwarten. Sollten Sie jedoch versehentlich mehrere Tabletten zuviel eingenommen haben, kontaktieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Tavanic auftreten:
Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Appetitlosigkeit, Verdauungsstörungen, Bauchschmerzen und Durchfall. Bei Auftreten von schweren, anhaltenden Durchfällen während oder nach der Behandlung sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin konsultieren. Versuchen Sie nicht, diese z.B. mit peristaltikhemmenden Präparaten (Präparate, welche die Darmbewegung hemmen) selbst zu behandeln.
Informieren Sie unter folgenden Umständen ebenfalls sofort Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin: bei Herzrhythmusstörungen, bei Anzeichen einer Bauchspeicheldrüsenentzündung (schwere Bauchkrämpfe, Übelkeit und Erbrechen) sowie bei Symptomen einer Hepatitis (Leberentzündung). Frühe Warnzeichen einer Leberentzündung sind Müdigkeit, Schwächegefühl, Unwohlsein, Appetitlosigkeit, Übelkeit oder Erbrechen. Weitere Zeichen sind Gelbfärbung der Augen (Bindehaut), der Haut oder entfärbter Stuhl.
Im Weiteren können auftreten: bestimmte Pilzerkrankungen, Superinfektionen mit resistenten Mikroorganismen, Kopfschmerzen, Schwindel, Benommenheit, Schlaflosigkeit. Gelegentlich: Zittern, Angstzustände, Verwirrtheit, Krampfanfälle, Störungen des Geschmacks- und Geruchssinnes, Sehnenbeschwerden (in sehr seltenen Fällen Sehnenriss, wie etwa eine Verletzung mit Riss der Achillessehne), Muskel und Gelenkschmerzen, Fieber, Schläfrigkeit.
Es wurden Fälle von Bänderrissen, Muskelrissen und Arthritis berichtet.
Selten: Depressionen, Hörstörungen (Tinnitus), Sehstörungen (verschwommenes Sehen), Halluzinationen, Paranoia, Unruhe, abnorme Träume, Alpträume, Selbstmordgedanken, Selbstmordversuche, Muskelschwäche, Unterzuckerung (Fälle von hypoglykämischem Schock) und Überzuckerung, v.a. bei Diabetikern (siehe «Wann ist bei der Anwendung von Tavanic Vorsicht geboten?»), Krämpfe, Herzrasen, Kribbeln, akutes Leberversagen mit tödlichem Ausgang, akutes Nierenversagen. Sollten diese Reaktionen auftreten, informieren Sie bitte unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Gelegentlich wurden Veränderungen des Blutbildes sowie Störungen der Leber- und Nierenfunktion beobachtet.
Es können allergische Reaktionen auftreten, beispielsweise Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen wie Hautausschläge, einschliesslich Hautausschläge im Mundraum (Stomatitis), Juckreiz oder Nesselsucht. Hautreaktionen können auch im Zusammenhang mit starker Sonneneinwirkung und künstlichem UV-Licht (Solarium) auftreten.
Sehr selten wurden starke allergische Reaktionen wie Schwellung des Gesichts, der Zunge und des Kehlkopfes, Hautausschläge, Herzklopfen, Blutdruckabfall (bis hin zu Ohnmacht und Schock) und Atemnot oder Atembeschwerden beobachtet. In diesen Fällen ist Tavanic sofort abzusetzen; eine ärztliche Behandlung (z.B. Schocktherapie) ist erforderlich.
Gewisse Arzneimittel aus derselben Antibiotikaklasse wie Tavanic können bei Patientinnen und Patienten, die an Porphyrie leiden, akute Schübe dieser Krankheit auslösen. Dies kann daher auch bei einer Therapie mit Tavanic vorkommen.
Sehr selten wurden Fälle einer Schädigung des peripheren Nervensystems sowie unkontrollierte oder abnorme Bewegungen beobachtet, Fälle von Synkope wurden berichtet.
Falls Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die in dieser Packungsbeilage nicht aufgeführt sind, setzen Sie bitte Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin davon in Kenntnis.
Wenn eine der oben beschriebenen Nebenwirkungen auftritt, aber auch, wenn Sie eine andere Nebenwirkung bemerken, bei der Sie einen Zusammenhang mit Tavanic vermuten, konsultieren Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Bewahren Sie das Medikament ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern auf.
Tavanic ist in der Originalpackung bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) aufzubewahren.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Bringen Sie nach Ende der Behandlung übrig gebliebene Tabletten zur fachgerechten Entsorgung zurück zu Ihrer Abgabestelle (Arztpraxis oder Apotheke).
