Muco-Mepha enthält den Wirkstoff N-Acetylcystein. Dieser Wirkstoff verflüssigt und löst den zähen, festsitzenden Schleim in den Luftwegen und fördert den Auswurf.
Das auf der Schleimhaut der Atemwege vorhandene Sekret spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Abwehr von eingeatmeten Schadstoffen wie Bakterien, Staub und chemische Verunreinigungen. Diese Reizstoffe werden im Sekret festgehalten, wo sie unschädlich gemacht und mit dem Auswurf ausgeschieden werden.
Bei durch Bakterien und Viren verursachten Infektionen (Erkältungen, Grippe, Bronchitis) und bei chronischen, durch Schadstoffe hervorgerufenen Reizungen nimmt die Schleimproduktion zu. Durch die Verdickung des Schleims können die Atemwege blockiert werden, was Atembeschwerden und Auswurfschwierigkeiten zur Folge hat.
Durch die schleimlösende Wirkung von Muco-Mepha verflüssigt sich der zähe Schleim und kann besser abgehustet werden. Dadurch wird die Gefahr einer Infektion vermindert. Bei freien Atemwegen lässt der Husten nach, und die Atmung wird erleichtert.
Muco-Mepha eignet sich zur Behandlung aller Atemwegserkrankungen, die zu übermässiger Schleimproduktion führen, wie z.B. Erkältungen oder Grippeerkrankungen mit Husten und Katarrh sowie bei akuter und chronischer Bronchitis, Nasennebenhöhlenentzündungen, Hals- und Rachenentzündungen, Bronchialasthma und (als Zusatzbehandlung) bei Mukoviszidose (zystische Fibrose).
Die Wirkung von Muco-Mepha wird durch reichliches Trinken gefördert. Rauchen trägt zur übermässigen Bildung von Bronchialschleim bei. Durch Verzicht auf das Rauchen können Sie die Wirkung von Muco-Mepha unterstützen.
Für Diabetikerinnen und Diabetiker
Muco-Mepha Brausetabletten können von Diabetikerinnen und Diabetikern eingenommen werden, da sie keine diabetogenen Süssstoffe enthalten.
Muco-Mepha 100 Granulat enthalten 2,8 g Saccharum.
Muco-Mepha 200 Granulat enthalten 2,7 g Saccharum.
Muco-Mepha 600 Granulat enthalten 2,3 g Saccharum.
Muco-Mepha darf bei bekannter Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber dem Wirkstoff N-Acetylcystein, bei Magen- und Darmgeschwüren nicht eingenommen werden. Bei Vorliegen einer seltenen angeborenen Stoffwechselkrankheit (sogenannte Phenylketonurie), die eine strikte Diät erfordert, dürfen die Muco-Mepha Brausetabletten nicht eingenommen werden.
Muco-Mepha Granulat enthält Saccharose und ist daher für Patienten und Patientinnen mit Fructose-Intoleranz, Saccharose-Isomaltase Mangel oder Glucose-Galactose-Malabsorption (seltene Stoffwechselkrankheiten) nicht angezeigt.
Das Granulat darf des Weiteren bei Vorliegen einer seltenen angeborenen Krankheit des Zuckerstoffwechsels (sogenannte Fruktase-Unverträglichkeit) nicht eingenommen werden.
Muco-Mepha sollte auch nicht zusammen mit hustenstillenden Mitteln (Antitussiva) eingenommen werden, da durch diese Mittel der Husten und die natürliche Selbstreinigung der Atemwege unterdrückt werden, wodurch das Abhusten des verflüssigten Schleims beeinträchtigt wird und es zu einem Stau des Bronchialschleims mit Gefahr von Bronchialkrämpfen und Infektionen der Atemwege kommen kann.
Die Brausetabletten und Sachet Granulat zu 600 mg dürfen wegen ihres hohen Gehaltes an Wirkstoff bei Kindern unter 12 Jahren (bei Kindern mit der Stoffwechselkrankheit Mukoviszidose (zystische Fibrose) unter 6 Jahren) nicht verwendet werden.
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wissen, was in solchen Fällen zu tun ist.
Muco-Mepha darf bei Kleinkindern unter 2 Jahren nicht angewendet werden.
Die Anwendung von Muco-Mepha kann, insbesondere zu Beginn der Behandlung, zu einer Verflüssigung und damit zu einer Volumensteigerung des Bronchialsekrets führen. Ist der Patient nicht in der Lage dieses ausreichend abzuhusten, wird der Arzt bzw. Ärztin geeignete Massnahmen durchführen. Falls Sie bei einer früheren Einnahme eines Arzneimittels mit dem gleichen Wirkstoff, wie ihn Muco-Mepha enthält, Ausschläge oder Atembeschwerden beobachtet haben, sollten Sie unbedingt Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin darüber informieren, bevor Sie mit der Einnahme des Präparates beginnen.
Leiden Sie an Bluthochdruck, sind für Sie die Muco-Mepha Brausetabletten nicht geeignet, da diese pro Brausetablette Muco-Mepha 200 ungefähr 194 mg Natrium entsprechend 494 mg Kochsalz enthalten, pro Brausetablette Muco-Mepha 600 ungefähr 149 mg Natrium entsprechend 376 mg Kochsalz enthalten.
Das nach der Einnahme freiwerdende Salz kann Ihren Blutdruck noch weiter erhöhen und die Wirkung von Mitteln gegen Bluthochdruck herabsetzen.
Die gleichzeitige Verwendung gewisser anderer Arzneimittel kann zu einer gegenseitigen Beeinflussung der Wirkung führen. So kann die Wirksamkeit gewisser Mittel gegen Durchblutungsstörungen der Herzkranzgefässe (z.B. Nitroglycerin bei Angina pectoris) verstärkt werden.
Die gleichzeitige Verabreichung von hustenstillenden Mitteln (Antitussiva) kann die Wirkung von Muco-Mepha beeinträchtigen (siehe oben: «Wann darf Muco-Mepha nicht eingenommen werden?»). Des Weiteren sollten Sie gewisse Antibiotika nicht gleichzeitig mit Muco-Mepha einnehmen, sondern in einem zeitlichen Abstand von mindestens 2 Stunden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
Auf Grund der bisherigen Erfahrungen ist bei bestimmungsgemässer Anwendung kein Risiko für das Kind bekannt. Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden aber nie durchgeführt. Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten oder den Arzt, den Apotheker oder den Drogisten bzw. die Ärztin, die Apothekerin oder die Drogistin um Rat fragen.
Es liegen keine Informationen zur Ausscheidung von Acetylcystein in die Muttermilch vor. Daher sollten Sie Muco-Mepha während der Stillzeit nur anwenden, wenn ihr behandelnder Arzt bzw. Ärztin dies für notwendig erachtet.
Falls nicht anders verordnet, beträgt die übliche Dosierung bei akuten Erkrankungen:
Kinder von 2 bis 12 Jahren: 3-mal täglich 1 Beutel zu 100 mg. oder 2-mal täglich 200 mg (z.B. 1 Brausetablette oder ein Beutel zu 200 mg)
Jugendliche über 12 Jahre und Erwachsene: 600 mg täglich, verteilt auf eine (1 Brausetablette oder 1 Sachet Granulat zu 600 mg) oder mehrere Gaben (z. B. 3 mal 1 Brausetablette oder 1 Beutel Granulat zu 200 mg).
Langzeitbehandlung (nur auf ärztliche Verordnung): 400?600 mg täglich, verteilt auf mehrere Gaben, Behandlungsdauer auf maximal 3?6 Monate beschränkt. Wenn die übermässige Schleimbildung und der damit verbundene Husten nach einer Behandlung von 2 Wochen nicht zurückgehen, sollten Sie einen Arzt aufsuchen, damit er die Ursache genauer abklärt und eine eventuelle bösartige Erkrankung der Atemwege ausschliesst.
Mukoviszidose: wie oben, jedoch bereits für Kinder ab 6 Jahren, 3-mal täglich 1 Sachet Granulat zu 200 mg oder eine Brausetablette zu 200 mg oder 1-mal täglich 1 Sachets Granulat oder 1mal täglich 1 Brausetablette zu 600 mg.
Lösen Sie die Brausetablette oder das Granulat in einem Glas kaltem oder heissem Wasser auf und trinken Sie es sofort. Lösen Sie nicht gleichzeitig andere Arzneimittel mit Muco-Mepha im Wasser auf, denn dadurch kann die Wirksamkeit sowohl von Muco-Mepha als auch der anderen Arzneimittel beeinträchtigt oder aufgehoben werden.
Beim Aufreissen der Sachets bzw. beim Öffnen des Röhrchens ist ein leichter Schwefelgeruch wahrnehmbar. Dieser ist typisch für den Wirkstoff Acetylcystein und beeinflusst dessen Wirkung nicht.
Halten Sie sich an die in dieser Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt oder der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Muco-Mepha auftreten: gelegentlich Magen-Darm-Störungen wie Erbrechen, Übelkeit, Durchfall, Bauchschmerzen oder Entzündungen der Mundschleimhaut, sowie Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen, Nesselsucht, Kopfschmerzen und Fieber.
Im Weiteren können gelegentlich beschleunigter Puls, tiefer Blutdruck und Ohrgeräusche, Sodbrennen, sowie Blutungen und Wasseransammlungen im Gesicht vorkommen.
Es können auch allergische Erscheinungen allgemeiner Art (wie z.B. Hautausschläge oder Juckreiz) auftreten. Sollten die Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen auch Atembeschwerden und Bronchialkrämpfe auslösen, was in seltenen Fällen geschehen kann, so müssen Sie die Behandlung mit Muco-Mepha sofort abbrechen und einen Arzt bzw. eine Ärztin aufsuchen.
Der Atem kann vorübergehend einen unangenehmen Geruch bekommen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Bewahren Sie das Arzneimittel ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern, vor Feuchtigkeit geschützt und bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 ºC) auf.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
