Letrozol Sandoz enthält den Wirkstoff Letrozol und ist ein sogenannter Aromatasehemmer. Es führt dazu, dass die Wirkung der Geschlechtshormone, der Estrogene, in Ihrem Körper herabgesetzt wird. Estrogene können das Wachstum bestimmter Arten von Brustkrebs fördern.
Letrozol Sandoz wird eingesetzt zur Behandlung von Brustkrebs bei Frauen nach den Wechseljahren: als Zusatzbehandlung bei Brustkrebs im Frühstadium nach einer Operation, wobei Letrozol Sandoz sofort angewendet wird, oder aber im Anschluss an eine 5-jährige Behandlung mit Tamoxifen, sowie bei fortgeschrittenem Brustkrebs.
Letrozol Sandoz darf nur auf Verschreibung Ihres Arztes oder Ihrer Ärztin verwendet werden.
Sie dürfen Letrozol Sandoz nicht anwenden, wenn Sie
Kinder und Jugendliche: Letrozol Sandoz ist nicht zur Anwendung bei Kindern und Jugendlichen geeignet.
In einigen Fällen wurden während der Behandlung mit Letrozol Sandoz Müdigkeit und Schwindel beobachtet. Falls dies auch bei Ihnen der Fall ist, dürfen Sie kein Fahrzeug lenken, keine Maschinen bedienen und keine anderen Tätigkeiten ausführen, die erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit erfordern.
Wenn Sie Letrozol Sandoz über längere Zeit einnehmen, kann ihr Knochenmineralgehalt abnehmen. Der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin wird diesen deshalb regelmässig kontrollieren und Ihnen gegebenenfalls ein Arzneimittel zur Prophylaxe oder zur Behandlung einer Osteoporose verschreiben.
Bevor Sie Letrozol Sandoz einnehmen wird Ihr Arzt wird möglicherweise den Hormonspiegel überprüfen, um sicherzustellen, dass Sie die Menopause durchlebt haben (Einstellen der Perioden).
Wechselwirkungen mit anderen Arzneimitteln: Letrozol Sandoz soll nicht zusammen mit Tamoxifen, mit anderen antiöstrogen- oder östrogenhaltigen Arzneimitteln (z.B. Hormonersatztherapie) eingenommen werden. Diese Arzneimittel können die Wirkung von Letrozol Sandoz vermindern.
Letrozol Sandoz soll nicht zusammen mit gewissen anderen Arzneimitteln angewendet werden, wie z.B. Mittel gegen Infektionen (gegen Pilzinfektionen, z.B. Ketoconazol, Itraconazol, Voriconazol und gegen bakterielle Infektionen, z.B. Antibiotika wie Clarithromycin oder Telithromycin), Arzneimittel zur Behandlung von Tuberkulose wie Rifampicin, Präparate mit Johanniskraut-Extrakten zur Behandlung von Depressionen und anderen Leiden (auch als Hypericum Perforatum bekannt), Mittel gegen (epileptische) Anfälle (wie z.B. Phenytoin, Carbamazepin und Phenobarbital), Mittel gegen AIDS (HIV) wie z.B. Ritonavir, oder Mittel zur Hemmung der Blutgerinnung, wie Clopidogrel.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie
Letrozol Sandoz ist nur zur Anwendung bei Frauen nach den Wechseljahren bestimmt. Wenn Sie schwanger sind oder stillen, dürfen Sie Letrozol Sandoz unter keinen Umständen einnehmen. Dennoch muss Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin mit Ihnen über die notwendige und angemessene Empfängnisverhütung sprechen wenn Sie in den Wechseljahren sind oder die Menopause gerade kürzlich eingesetzt hat, denn in dieser Zeit könnten Sie eventuell noch schwanger werden. Bei unklarem Menopausestatus wird Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin vor Therapiebeginn eine hormonelle Untersuchung durchführen.
Die empfohlene Dosierung beträgt eine Filmtablette (2,5 mg) pro Tag. Letrozol Sandoz wird mit Flüssigkeit eingenommen. Die Einnahme kann unabhängig von einer Mahlzeit erfolgen.
Wie lange Sie mit Letrozol Sandoz behandelt werden müssen, wird Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin entscheiden.
Haben Sie die Einnahme von Letrozol Sandoz einmal vergessen, holen Sie dies nach, sobald Sie sich daran erinnern. Wenn Sie die vergessene Dosis zeitnah der nächstfälligen Dosis bemerken, nehmen Sie die vergessene Dosis nicht mehr ein. Verdoppeln Sie die Dosis nicht!
Sollten Sie einmal versehentlich mehr Filmtabletten als verschrieben eingenommen haben, wenden Sie sich an Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. an Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Letrozol Sandoz auftreten, wobei viele durch die Hemmung der Hormonproduktion in Ihrem Körper verursacht werden (z.B. Hitzewallungen, Haarausfall, Scheidenblutungen):
Sehr häufig: Hitzewallungen, Gelenkschmerzen, Erhöhung des Cholesterins im Blut, verstärktes Schwitzen, Müdigkeit, allgemeine Körperschwäche, Krankheitsgefühl.
Häufig: Appetitlosigkeit, gesteigerter Appetit, Gewichtszunahme, Kopfschmerzen, Schwindel, Depression, Schwäche, hoher Blutdruck, Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Verdauungsstörungen, Verstopfung oder Durchfall, Haarverlust, Scheidenblutungen, trockene Haut, Bauchschmerzen, Ausschlag, Muskel- und Knochenschmerzen, Osteoporose, Knochenbrüche, Schwellungen/Aufgedunsenheit durch Ansammlung von Körperflüssigkeit, Blutgefässverschluss durch ein Blutgerinnsel (Blutpfropf).
Gelegentlich: Harnwegsinfektionen, Angst, Nervosität, Reizbarkeit, Schläfrigkeit, Schlaflosigkeit, Gedächtnisstörungen, Schmerzen oder Gefühl von Brennen in den Händen oder im Handgelenk (Karpaltunnelsyndrom). Störungen des Geschmacksempfindens, Augenreizung, verschwommenes Sehen, Trübung der Augenlinse, Herzklopfen, beschleunigter Herzschlag, Herzschwäche, Herzbeschwerden infolge verminderter Durchblutung, Angina pectoris, Herzinfarkt, Hirnschlag, niedriger Blutdruck, schmerzhafte Venenentzündung, Atemnot, Husten, entzündeter und/oder trockener Mund, trockene Schleimhäute, Hautausschlag und Jucken, vermehrtes Wasserlösen, Scheidenausfluss, trockene Scheide, Brustschmerzen, Fieber, Durst, Verringerung der Zahl der weissen Blutkörperchen, Gewichtsabnahme, Kribbeln in den Beinen oder Armen, Veränderung der Leberwerte, Gelenkentzündung.
Selten: Blutgerinnsel in den Lungengefässen oder in den Arterien.
Sehr selten: gelbe Haut und Augen, Übelkeit, Apetitverlust, dunkel verfärbter Harn (Anzeichen einer Hepatitis); Hautausschlag, rote Haut, Bläschenbildung an den Lippen, an den Augen oder am Mund, Hautabschälung, Fieber (Anzeichen einer Hauterkrankung). Springfinger (Zustand, in welchem sich Ihr Finger oder Daumen in einer gebogenen Stellung verbleibt).
Häufigkeit unbekannt: Schwere allergische Reaktionen (anaphylaktische Reaktionen).
Wenn die Nebenwirkungen im Verlauf der Behandlung nicht zurückgehen oder störend sind oder wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Das Arzneimittel soll vor Feuchtigkeit geschützt und nicht über 30 °C aufbewahrt werden.

Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf der Packung mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
