Elixir frangulae compositum Streuli ist ein zuverlässig wirkendes Abführmittel und enthält als Wirkstoff einen Faulbaumextrakt, welcher zur kurzfristigen Anwendung bei gelegentlicher Verstopfung geeignet ist.

Bei Erkrankungen des Magen-Darm-Traktes darf Elixir frangulae compositum Streuli nicht eingenommen werden.
Elixir frangulae compositum Streuli darf nicht bei Kindern unter 12 Jahren und nicht in der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit angewendet werden.
Nicht bei Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber einem der Inhaltsstoffe anwenden (siehe « Was ist in Elixir frangulae compositum Streuli enthalten?»).
Abführmittel sollen, wegen einer möglichen Gewöhnung, nur gelegentlich und nicht länger als 1-2 Wochen eingenommen werden.
Bei chronischem Gebrauch/Missbrauch oder Anwendung höherer als der empfohlenen Dosen können Durchfälle mit Wasserverlust und Störungen des Salzhaushaltes (insbesondere Kaliumverlust) auftreten. Deshalb ist besondere Vorsicht geboten bei Patienten, die gleichzeitig bestimmte wassertreibende Arzneimittel (Diuretika), Arzneimittel mit Süssholzwurzel, Kortikosteroide, gewisse Antihistaminika (wie Terfenadin), Arzneimittel bei Herzmuskelschwäche (Herzglycoside wie Digoxin) sowie bestimmte Arzneimittel bei Herzrhythmusstörungen (Antiarrhythmika) einnehmen.
Dieses Arzneimittel enthält 10 Vol.-% Alkohol. Bei Beachtung der empfohlenen Dosierung werden bei jeder Einnahme bis zu 1,2 g Alkohol zugeführt. Ein gesundheitliches Risiko besteht u.a. für Leberkranke, Alkoholkranke, Epileptiker, Hirngeschädigte, Schwangere und Stillende. Die Wirkung anderer Arzneimittel kann verstärkt oder beeinträchtigt werden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin, wenn Sie an andern Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbst gekaufte) einnehmen!
Elixir frangulae compositum Streuli ist für schwangere und stillende Frauen nicht geeignet.
Erwachsene: Vorzugsweise abends vor dem Schlafengehen 2-3 Messlöffel (10-15 ml) voll.
Jugendliche ab 12 Jahren: Vorzugsweise abends vor dem Schlafengehen 1 Messlöffel (5 ml) voll.
Der Wirkungseintritt erfolgt nach 8-10 Stunden.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
In seltenen Fällen können Blähungen oder Bauchkrämpfe auftreten.
Bei chronischem Gebrauch/Missbrauch kann aufgrund von Elektrolytverlusten, insbesondere Kaliumverlust und einer dadurch verursachten Darmträgheit ein Gewöhnungseffekt eintreten.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Abführmittel mit Faulbaumextrakt können den Harn dunkel färben, was jedoch harmlos ist.
Bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) aufbewahren.
Ausser Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahren.

Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.

5 ml (= 1 Messlöffel) Elixir enthalten: 40,5-72 mg Trockenextrakt aus Faulbaumrinde (5-7:1). Eingestellt auf 9,375 mg Glucofranguline (berechnet als Glucofrangulin A).
Auszugsmittel: Ethanol 60% V/V , Saccharum 0,95 g, Aromastoffe; Konservierungsmittel: Methylparahydroxybenzoat (E 218), sowie weitere Hilfsstoffe.
Alkoholgehalt: 10 Vol.%; Zuckergehalt: 0,95 g (= 0,08 BE).
