Demetrin gehört zur Arzneimittelgruppe der Benzodiazepine und enthält den Wirkstoff Prazepam. Es wirkt beruhigend, angstlösend und entspannend. Demetrin dient zur Behandlung von Angst- und Spannungszuständen, Erregung und Unruhe, gesteigerter Reizbarkeit, starken Stimmungsschwankungen sowie bei körperlichen Störungen, die durch nervöse Verspannungen bedingt sind.
Demetrin darf nur auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin angewendet werden.
Nicht alle Spannungs-, Erregungs- und Angstzustände bedürfen einer Behandlung mit Arzneimitteln. Oft sind sie Ausdruck körperlicher oder seelischer Erkrankungen und können durch andere Massnahmen oder eine Behandlung der Grundkrankheit beeinflusst werden.
Demetrin darf nicht eingenommen werden bei bekannter Überempfindlichkeit gegen den Wirkstoff Prazepam oder einen der Hilfsstoffe (siehe Kapitel «Was ist in Demetrin enthalten?») sowie Abhängigkeit von anderen Mitteln einschliesslich Alkohol. Demetrin darf bei starker Beeinträchtigung der Atemfunktion, bei schwerer Leberinsuffizienz sowie bei krankhafter Muskelschwäche («Myasthenia gravis») nicht eingenommen werden. Wenn Sie während der Nacht aufgrund von Atemproblemen erwachen (sog. «Schlafapnoe-Syndrom»), dürfen Sie Demetrin ebenfalls nicht einnehmen.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und Fähigkeit, Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen, beeinträchtigen! Dies gilt besonders zu Beginn der Behandlung und bei höherer Dosierung. Sie sollten daher im Strassenverkehr und beim Bedienen von Maschinen vermehrt vorsichtig sein, bis Sie Ihre individuelle Reaktion auf Demetrin kennen und die für Sie günstige Dosierung feststeht.
Abhängigkeitsgefährdung: Die Einnahme von Demetrin kann ? wie bei allen Benzodiazepinhaltigen Präparaten ? zu einer Abhängigkeit führen. Diese kann vor allem bei einer ununterbrochenen Einnahme über längere Zeit (in gewissen Fällen bereits nach einigen Wochen) auftreten und hat nach abruptem Absetzen des Arzneimittels Entzugssymptome zur Folge. Es können dann Unruhe, Angstzustände, Schlaflosigkeit, Konzentrationsschwäche, Kopfschmerzen und Schweissausbrüche auftreten. Diese Erscheinungen klingen in der Regel nach zwei bis drei Wochen ab.
Um das Risiko der Entwicklung einer Abhängigkeit möglichst klein zu halten, beachten Sie bitte folgende Hinweise:
Teilen Sie Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin mit, falls Sie gleichzeitig andere Arzneimittel einnehmen, insbesondere starke Schmerzmittel, andere Beruhigungsmittel, Mittel gegen Depressionen, Epilepsie oder psychische Störungen, Schlafmittel oder Arzneimittel zur Muskelentspannung. Demetrin kann die Wirkung dieser Arzneimittel verstärken. Aus demselben Grund sollten Sie während der Behandlung mit Demetrin auf den Genuss von alkoholischen Getränken verzichten. Die Wirkung von Demetrin kann verstärkt oder verlängert werden durch die gleichzeitige Anwendung von gewissen Antibiotika, Antidepressiva sowie Arzneimitteln zur Behandlung von Pilzinfektionen, Magen- und Zwölffingerdarmgeschwüren, Herzrhythmusstörungen oder HIV-Erkrankung.
Durch die gleichzeitige Einnahme von empfängnisverhütenden Mitteln («Pille») kann der Effekt von Demetrin verstärkt werden.
Patienten und Patientinnen mit der seltenen, vererbten Galactose-Unverträglichkeit, Lactase-Mangel oder Glucose-Galactose-Malabsorption sollten Demetrin Tabletten nicht einnehmen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Wenn Sie schwanger sind oder es werden möchten, dürfen Sie Demetrin nur auf ausdrückliche Verordnung des Arztes bzw. der Ärztin einnehmen. Falls eine Einnahme von Demetrin während der Stillzeit notwendig ist, müssen Sie abstillen.
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin legt das für Sie geeignete Einnahmeschema je nach Ausprägung des Krankheitsbildes individuell fest. Es ist deshalb wichtig, dass Sie sich genau an die Vorschriften über Einnahmemenge, Einnahmezeit und Behandlungsdauer halten. Wenn nicht anders verordnet, beträgt die tägliche Dosis für Erwachsene 1 Tablette Demetrin 20 oder 2 Tabletten Demetrin 10. Bei älteren Menschen genügen oft schon kleinere Einnahmemengen. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin kann die Dosis wenn nötig auch erhöhen. Für Kinder vom 3. bis 12. Lebensjahr wird die Dosis dem Alter, dem Gewicht und der Grösse entsprechend angepasst. Nehmen Sie die Tabletten unzerkaut mit etwas Flüssigkeit ein. Die Teilbarkeit der Tablette wird durch eine Bruchrille erleichtert.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme oder Anwendung von Demetrin auftreten: Die häufigsten Nebenwirkungen sind Müdigkeit, Schläfrigkeit, verlängerte Reaktionszeit, Verwirrtheit, lebhafte Träume, Schwindel, Benommenheit, Bewegungs- und Gangunsicherheit (Sturzgefahr), Kopfschmerzen, Zittern, undeutliche Aussprache, Erregtheit, verschwommenes Sehen, Herzklopfen, Mundtrockenheit, verschiedene Magen-Darm-Beschwerden, Schwitzen, vorübergehender Hautausschlag, Gelenkschmerzen und Schwächegefühl. Juckreiz, geschwollene Füsse, Verminderung der sexuellen Erregbarkeit, Menstruationsstörungen, leichter Blutdruckabfall und Gewichtszunahme wurden ebenfalls beobachtet. In Einzelfällen kann es zu Gedächtnisstörungen und selten zu einer vorübergehenden Erhöhung der Leberwerte kommen. Bei Patienten und Patientinnen mit Verengung der Atemwege oder Hirnschädigungen können Atemstörungen auftreten. Bei hohen Dosen kann es zu Sehstörungen (z.B. Doppelbilder) kommen. Ausserdem besteht die Möglichkeit «paradoxer» Reaktionen, die sich z.B. in erhöhter Aggressivität, akuten Erregungszuständen oder Angst äussern können. Beim Auftreten derartiger Reaktionen wird Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin die Behandlung mit Demetrin beenden. Falls solche Nebenwirkungen auftreten, ist der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin aufzusuchen.
Falls Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Bewahren Sie die Tabletten möglichst in der verschlossenen Originalpackung bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) an einem für Kinder unerreichbaren Ort auf. Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «Exp.» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden. Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
1 Tablette Demetrin 10 enthält 10 mg Prazepam als Wirkstoff sowie die Hilfsstoffe Lactose, mikrokristalline Cellulose, Maisstärke, Magnesiumstearat und hochdisperses Siliciumdioxid.
